Interview Alan Goes

Written by F. Machado Photo's courtesy of the IFL
Thursday, 23 November 2006
UFC and Pride veteran Allan Goes has found a new house: The International Fight League's TigerSharks. There, the former Brazilian Top Team's heavyweight fighter has done a great job, submitting Devin Cole in September and taking out fellow Brazilian Daniel Gracie by KO. During this exclusive interview to MMARR, the Brazilian fighter talks about his impressions about the last bout and how is his training with the TigerSharks. "The training is awesome, lots of striking, kicks, and punches. That is one of the reasons I defeated Daniel Gracie by KO," he explains. However, he does not forget his roots. "Jiu-Jitsu and ground game is my nature, my home," he says. Read the full interview below:
MMARR - Tell me about your fight with Daniel Gracie
Allan Goes - It was a great fight, very exciting. It was my second fight… in the first one I defeated Devin Cole at heavyweights, and then they asked me who I'd like to fight in the super fight. I choose Daniel Gracie because I think it would be a great fight for me. Since I was a kid, the Carlson Gracie Team has kept a good rivalry with Gracie Barra. I had defeated Daniel in a gi competition before, I thought it was time for us to fight in the ring.
MMARR - How long have you been living in US?
Allan Goes - I have been living in the United States for 15 years. I spent a season in Brazil , but in my country things are very complicated to live and fight. Now I am fine in here, I've been training with the International Fight League's TigerSharks and I will probably return to the ring in January.
MMARR - So, don't you have plans to come back to Brazil ?
Allan Goes -No, I don't have plans to return. Right now, with the IFL, we formed a team, like a soccer or basketball team… with coaches and alternates. I have signed a one-year contract with them and according to them, it will be around nine bouts per year. So, I have to focus in the team.
MMARR - Tell me more about the TigerSharks. How is the training?
Allan Goes - The team is formed of five athletes and three alternates, who will be in the ring in case any of them got injured. The coach of my team is Maurice Smith and I am the captain. The training is awesome. I train a lot of striking… kicking, punching. That is one of the reasons I defeated Daniel Gracie by KO. I have been training where I was not supposed to be good, striking. Jiu-Jitsu and the ground game is my nature, my home.
MMARR - So, you are no longer a BTT fighter, right? You are a TigerShark…
Allan Goes - I will always represent Carlson Gracie and BTT in my life. I do respect a lot the master's job. He was a father for me and I have lots of friends at Brazilian Top Team. But now I have to move on and I have a team and it's called the TigerSharks.
MMARR - And about the tournament? The TigerSharks were defeated in the last phase, right?
Allan Goes - Yes, we were defeated in the semifinals by 3x2 by the WolfPack, captained by Matt Lindland. Now they will do the finals against the Pat Miletich's Silver Backs on December 29. In the same event, Renzo Gracie will do a super fight against Carlos Newton.
MMARR - So, send a message to your fans in Brazil and around the globe
Allan Goes - I want to say to them I am happy in my new house and I am glad to return to the rings. I thank them all for the support and for believing I my work. I have been focused in my academy and I love Brazil so much.

IVC hits Iran this semester
Thursday, April 27, 2006
After hosting a show in Venezuela and Jamaica, International Vale-Tudo Championship once again reinvents the Mixed Martial Arts event after four years away from fight press scene. In June of 2006, IVC promises to set fire in a region that has been treated as a wide world threat: Islamic Republic of Iran, in Middle Western. The local of the event will be in Hamedan province, which was the first capital of the first government of old Iran for the past 26 countries.
In between rumors of North American invasion and Iranian mass destruction weapons, Iran will be part of the international calendar of Vale-Tudo in 2006. According to event's promoter Sérgio Batarelli, the event will gather together the best fighters from Europe and Asia, besides Brazilians. Still according to event promoter, the International Vale-Tudo Championship in the country will receive the name as Iranian Vale Tudo Championship (IVT) and will also feature in the card local Asghr Rashtbrei and French fighters Franck Rivas, Michel Garcia and Philippe Perin. Interview: Rodrigo Nogueira
Tuesday, May 9, 2006
After celebrating his victory at Pride Open Weight, held on last Friday (5), at Osaka Dome, Brazilian Rodrigo Nogueira Minotauro was found by Maxfighting crew at the hotel in Japan and conceded this exclusive by phone. He talked about the fight against Brazilian Zuluzinho, who he submitted him in early round 1 and his thoughts on the event. Now he is on the way to France, where on May 13, he will run few seminars in the country. After taking some time off, Rodrigo Minotauro returns to Brazil to intensify his trains. "I do respect all fighters in the competition, but I will take this title to Brazil and I will train hard to do it. This belt will be mine!" warns the BJJ black belt. Read the full interview below:
MaxFighting: Did you expect Brazilian Zuluzinho so aggressive like that?
Minotauro: No, he surprised me and gave no choices, but taking him down and do my game. I was planning exchanging a little bit on the feet, but he hit with a strong blow in my arm, which by the way is sore, and I used my Jiu-Jitsu to beat him.
MaxFighting: - He threw some heavy blows in the early seconds? If one hits you in the chin, the underdog would had win?
Minotauro: To he honest with you I train to protect myself and not be beaten, so there is no way out that blow would hit me in the chin. I wouldn't allow him to do it.
MaxFighting: Is it true DSE contacted Zuluzinho a week before the fight. You traveled to Japan without knowing who you'd fight with?
Minotauro: Yes, he popped up in the last minute. I would prefer not to fight a Brazilian as me, but I am a professional and I just did my job. Before Zuluzinho I tough I would fight an American wrestler, or Mark Coleman or even Brazilian Fabricio Werdum.
MaxFighting: What impressed you most during Pride Open Weight first round?
Minotauro: Hunt exchanged great punches and applied good take downs... he definitely has a dangerous game. In other hand, Josh Barnett also impressed me a lot because he was getting beat by Aleksander Emmelianenko and got recovered and won at the final. Werdum also showed a great heart during this first phase and might surprise at the second. But as I said at the show, I do respect all fighters in the competition, but I will take this title to Brazil and I will train hard to do it. This belt will be mine!
MaxFighting: Who would you like to fight in the second round?
Minotauro:- Whoever they put me with will be a great fight. As you could see, all matches of this first round was so disputed no one was decided by the referees or even reached the third round. But I think I would like to fight Yoshida or Josh Barnett, because both of them have a great ground skills and it would be a very technical fight on the ground and also with action on the feet.

Giving Jiu-Jitsu a break, Brazilian Fighting Scene hit the road and went to the South of Brazil, to check out from the ring side a Vale-Tudo show. Held at Multi Eventos Sergio Lorenzato Gymnasium, in beautiful city Balneário Camburiú, in Santa Catarina, the Sul Fight MMA debuted in Brazil with great bouts under Vale-Tudo rules, plus a Boxing and a Muay Thai super-fights. Held in September, Sul Fight showed the value of Brazilian South fighter, proving MMA in not only found in the major cities as Rio de Janeiro, birth city of Brazilian Top Team, or Curitiba (Chute Boxe).
Even having no fame as BTT or Chute Boxe, teams from Santa Catarina already proved their games in other countries, as Ataque Duplo. Thiago Tavares fought in England at Cagewarriors: 'Enter The Wolfslair', held in last march, in Liverpool, and submitted Daniel Weichel with a guillotine choke at 4min47s of the first round. On last Sul Fight the story ended similar. To fight the international champion, BJJ black belt Fefel presented his pupil Adriano Gonçalves, who had fought at Floripa Fight II, another Vale-Tudo show in the state.
Tavares imposes international experience to submit
The fight begin with Thiago Tavares applying a high kick in Adriano Gonçalves and in the sequence, he takes the fight to the ground. From there, he imposed his game punching and trying to find a submission way to win. Fefel's pupil showed a lot of resistance and took the fight to the second round. Trying to reverse the bad situation, Gonçalves proposed to exchange punches, but Tavares did not accept it and took him down after a beautiful double leg. In the ground, Tavares was way superior, applying several Jiu-Jitsu positions as a dangerous arm-lock from the mount. Tavares defended trying to stand up, but Tavares didn't forgive him, fixing a triangle choke, the fatal weapon to the victory.
And Tavares wasn't alone. His teammate Daniel Mexicano (Ataque-Duplo) also did a great job against Cúrio (Rômulo Reis), defeating him by referee's decision. The fight started with both fighters showing boxing and Muay Thai skills on the feet, but after clinching, the fight goes to the ground. Very balanced, Mexicano defends himself from the foot-lock's attempts from Curió, who ended suffering a big cut in the face, stopping the fight to see the doctors. Returning with a lot stamina, both fighters decided to exchange punches on the feet. Mexicano abuses from the knees and punch sequences, but Ataque Duplo's fighter was almost surprised by a left hook, which almost decided the fight. Getting recovered of the imminent KO, Mexicano insists in punishing his opponent with knees and takedowns, and he was pointed as champion by referees.
Girls kick ass at Sul Fight
Was not only boys which showed being tough fighters in the Sul Fight ring. The girls drove the audience insane with a great bout between Liliane Balle Loli (Noguchi) and Vanessa Conrado (Wado). Fighting at the -53kg division, Loli uses her experience to take advantage over Vanessa and after exchange punches, obliges Vanessa to do guard on the ground. Loli kept attacking her opponent with kick in the legs and jumping over her. Vanessa assumes her defensive posture, allows Loli to punshi from the mount and takes the fight to the second round. However, due to the bruises, he decides to abandon the ring, letting the victory with experienced Loli.

After doing two bouts, Gurgel only needed to win policeman from Minas Gerais fighter Paulo Peposo to be senior number one of the Open Class. But tough challenger didn’t make things easy for Gurgel and gave his best in the final. In a very balanced and tied fight, referee punished Gurgel due to the runaways from the mat, which got two points to Peposo. The policeman knew how to control the fight and didn’t allow Gurgel to take any moves, sealing the gold medal to Peposo. Gurgel complained: “Everybody saw referee made a mistake. I cannot accept a mistake like that. It was a huge one and it was not fair to punish me with two negative points,” complained Gurgel. Peposo celebrated the title: “He wouldn’t imagine senior division was so hard… I neutralized him on the feet,” said the senior Open Class champion. In the following day, Gurgel returned to the mats and won the heavyweight division, defeating Aurélio Magno Índio. Paulo Filho Interview regarding Bushido GP
by Ed Preuss November 10th

Back in Brazil, Pride Bushido GP' semifinalist Paulo Filho talked with MMA365.com crew about the injure which took him out from the gp finals, held in Japan, on November 5th. Due to a knee ligament injure during the fight with Japanese Kazuo Misaki, Brazilian Top team's black belt wasn't able to continue in the tournament after submitting the Japanese fighter with an arm-lock. So, instead of fighting Paulo Filho at the final, Canadian Denis Kang had Misaki as an opponent. Misaki had one of the best fights of the entire tournament and became the tournament champion. So, what does Paulo thinks about the tournament and being so close to the title?
MMA365.com - Did you hurt yourself during the fight with Misaki… why didn't you fight the final?
Paulo Filho - You are right. I got injured during the fight with Misaki, but when you are warm, you don't feel pain. But then, at the locker-room, I couldn't walk at all. I wasn't able to put my foot on the ground. What happened during the fight… I was trying to take my left leg from the half guard when I I felt something was wrong. Then, after the fight I understood I was injured and I barely could step. I wasn't in good condition to return to the ring.
MMA365.com - You submitted the champion and had great chances against Denis Kang. Do you regret not returning to the ring?
Paulo Filho - There is not regret because there were no conditions for me to fight. Who knows me must know I fought with a broken hand, with a spoiled leg, but at this time was different. I didn't have any chances. I believe God didn't want me to be the champion and pointed Misaki.
MMA365.com - But did you try to take some painkiller to return?
Paulo Filho - I took a painkiller shot, to stop the pain, but it didn'twork. It was hurting so bad. There was no way I could step inside the ring that way, only if I was crazy! I know I had an easy fight against Misaki and probably would beat Kang too and bring the belt to Brazil, but God didn't want it to be…
MMA365.com - So you think Misaki deserved the title?
Paulo Filho - Of course. He is a great champion. He defeated Phil Baroni and Dan Henderson in the first phases and now his have a chance to fight the division's champion for the title. He has done a great job against the favorite ones and deserved this title more than me. He is a tough fighter and uses a lot of strategy. At the final, he imposed a hard punishment to Denis Kang and then thanked the audience saying I was the real champ.
MMA365.com - So, Misaki said you were the champion. Do you feel like it?
Paulo Filho - No. I don't feel like a champion, because I got hurt and my opponent returned and won the title. I know I am a difficult opponent, and very tough to be beaten. But I don't see myself as a champion, besides submitting the champion. It was his day and Japanese people deserved a local champion in their tournament.
MMA365.com - And about the future? Who would you like to fight?
Paulo Filho - So far I don't want to fight a specific fighter. I've won the Bushido champion and Denis Kang I wouldn't fight him in a super fight because we are kind of close. So, the only way to fight him would be in a tournament like that. So, I think in this division… I say Dan Henderson. I'd like to fight him.
MMA365.com - You said in this division… Why don't you fight between the middleweight fighters?
Paulo Filho - Because there are lots of friends in there such as Rogério Nogueira, Ricardo Arona, José Mário Sperry… so I accept to lose some weight and fight in the division below. And once I said I might fight between the heavyweights, but I only would do that to impress the Japanese people, which I like the most.
MMA365.com - Who would be the toughest fighters in the middleweight for you?
Paulo Filho - If I had to fight in the middleweight, I'd like to fight Mauricio Shogun. Everybody says he is a nice guy, but I don't forget he challenged me once. He said: "Paulo Filho, you are next!" And now I want him!
Hero's GP: Gesias Cavalcante interview
by Ed Preuss October 31st
Photo: Courtesy of FEG

The best -70kg fighter in the world has a name: Gesias Cavalcante. Called as JZ by his American Top Team's mates, Gesias has performed a great job at Hero's Middleweight GP's ring, on last October 9 th. After KO'ing, in the first phases Japanese Hidetaka Monma and Hiroyuki Takaya, by way of a beautiful flying-knee, Brazilian Luta-Livre's black belt had to face the major challenge of his career: fighting two opponents in the same night: BJJ black belt Rani Yahia and Japanese Caol Uno. With a versatile game, Gesias surprised Rani and submitted him with a guillotine choke in only 20 seconds of fight. At the final, he showed all the Muay Thai he had rained in Holland to defeat Uno by referee's decision. Know more about JZ in the following interview.
MMA365 - So, tell be about this final phase of Hero's GP?
Gesias Cavalcante - Well, I am damn happy with this title. It's such a great reward for what I have been training with my team. About the fight, against Rani Yahia, I realized I might submit him when I caught his neck. I have been training a lot from this position and the fight ended very quickly. Against Uno, I knew I would face an experienced and very technical fighter. So I did a technical fight, and I used the right strategy. I thank God to leave the ring as the champion.
MMA365 - Were you concerned to fight a Brazilian at the semifinal of the tournament?
Gesias Cavalcante - No, I wanted to show my country we have great fighters and despite the loss of the Soccer World Cup by Brazilian team, we are still on the top of MMA. I dedicated myself a lot to reach this title and against Rani, I watched a few videotapes of his fights and I realized he has such solid ground skill. He plays smooth, but with a lot of will, as me. It was fast, but it was a great bout.
MMA365 - Tell me more about the Masato's challenge?
Gesias Cavalcante - I challenged Masato to fight me at Dynamite show. I love challenging my opponents. He's a K-1 max fighter and he is very tough. I know I have few chances to win, but what matters is having the experience to fight a tournament like K-1 Max.
MMA365 - Is it true you spent some time training in Holland sharpening your Muay Thai?
Gesias Cavalcante - Yes. I spent one month training at Gym Alkmaar. They have such a great team, such as Gago Drago, Kaas Yakut, Charroon, Melvin Manhoef, Edwin Van Osoa I also had a chance to train some ground techniques with Marcelo Salazar, Fabiano Pega-Leve, Thiago Jambo and Thiago Tavares, who were training in there also. It was a great time and I learned a lot.
MMA365 - Tell me more about your training at ATT
Gesias Cavalcante - It's such a great crew. I train Jiu-Jitsu with BJJ black belt Ricardo Liboa, Muay Thai with 5x Muay Thai world champion Ouali Mohamed? with Boxing Olympic champion Howard Davis. I also have as Wrestling' sparring as Mike Brown, Jeff Monson, Benji Radach and Marco Oliveira. Andre Benkei supervises my physical training.
MMA365 - So, tell me a little bit about your History... how did you start fighting?
Gesias Cavalcante - I started fighting Judo at age of four and practiced it until becoming teenager. I used to live in Campo Grande, in Rio de Janeiro and it such a far neighborhood and have no academies near. So, years later I entered in a Muay Thai academy, and then went to Sensei's Luta-Livre. By that time Marcos Vinicius Corval was a teacher and the crew was very good. There were fighters such as Maicon Alarcp Pelo Vitor Hugo and UFC fighter Renato Babalu was graduated black belt in there. Then I was invited to train at Carlson Gracie team. I thank Corval for keeping his opened mind and let us train other modalities in other academies.
MMA365 - You also fought at Brazilian Luta Oloica, right?
Gesias Cavalcante - In this middle time, Jefferson Ratazana, who used to teach Wrestling at Gama Filho called me to fight in a tournament. I trained one day, fought in the other and did great, becoming State champion. Then I fought at Nationals and few editions after my debut I became champion as well. I remember my first exchange Brazil-USA at American Wrestling Training Center. It was one of the best experiences as an athlete I've ever had. I learned a lot from the Olympic champions.
MMA365 - And then you moved to USA? After the competition?
Gesias Cavalcante - Few months later, when I was 18 and was dying to fight Vale-Tudo. But didn't have cash to afford a trip to US. So my friends Marcoa Oliveira, Marcel Ferreira and Moacir Boca, who already were training at ATT, invited me to train in there. Another friend of mine lent me some money and with my parents' support I bought a plane ticket. I thank them for all of it. In two years I was in the ring 13 times and have a single loss to Joachim Hansen, by referee's decision, and it was controversial.
Wanderlei Silva's exclusive interview
by Ed Preuss October 27th
Caption: UFC's fighter Gabriel Napao and Pride fighter's Wanderlei Silva

Pride middleweight champion, Wanderlei Silva showed himself to the American audience Pride Real, on last October 21, in Vegas. During the Pride debut in US, The Brazilian fighter grabbed the mic and challenged the UFC champion Chuck Liddell, setting fire in the American MMA scene. "I think it would be easier to get me into the octagon to fight him than get Liddell to fight at Pride's ring," said Silva during an exclusive to MMA365.com. Besides confirming he will be in action still this semester, in Japan , Silva says he might fight at Pride US in February and makes his own plans for the future in the country. "I have plans to the next four or five years to feature a Vale-Tudo training center in Los Angeles. Not only a gym, but a full training center," he stated.
MMA365.com - So, Chute Boxe launched a new filial in Los Angeles... how important is the US for Chute Boxe?
Wanderlei Silva - It was a great acquisition for Chute Boxe. The new gym is owned by Roberto and Van Damme. US is such a big country and to be honest with you, I have plans for the next four or five years to feature a Vale-Tudo training center in Los Angeles. Not only a gym, but a full training center.
MMA365.com - What did you think of the first Pride FC USA event?
Wanderlei Silva - It was one the best Pride's I've seen. It was great. I think Pride has all potential and the UFC is a traditional event in US, but to be honest, I think Pride has a better card, better fighters and a better show. I think UFC will have to spend more money from now and on.
MMA365.com - You challenged Chuck Liddell, what do you think of this fight if it happens?
Wanderlei Silva - Well, it would be a great fight. I am in the mood to fight him and he has said before he would fight me anywhere, even at the Garden. However, I think Dana White thinks putting Liddell against me is such a great risk to the UFC, since Liddell is his best fighter. He knows I can beat him and even KO him.
MMA365.com - Realistically, do you think that Dana White will allow Chuck Liddell to fight you at a Pride event here in the USA?
Wanderlei Silva - I think it's just a matter of money. If Pride and UFC split the PPV, I think it would be easy to reach a deal. I think it would be easier to get me into the octagon to fight him than get Liddell to fight at Pride's ring.
MMA365.com - Who do you think will win between Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell in their rematch?
Wanderlei Silva - Well, it's a great fight. In my opinion, I guess it's 50-50%, but I believe Chuck Liddell wins.
MMA365.com - When are you fighting next? Any word on who it might be?
Wanderlei Silva - Well, I'll fight on December 31 at Pride and so far I don't have an opponent defined yet. People are talking it might be Rogerio Minotouro, and if they are right, it will be a great match because I like quality of fighting and he certainly has that quality. It will be a great fight for me. Then I probably will fight on February 24, in US.
MMA365.com - In the middleweight GP of 2007, if you were to face Shogun Rua, would this be something that both of you be willing to do, would it be competitive?
Wanderlei Silva - Probably, because I must fight and so does him, once he's the champion. We also had a meeting with Mestrao (Rudimar Fedrigo, Chute Boxe's leader) and we agreed that we are professional and if we run into each other, each one of us will give their best to win.
MMA365.com - You were on vacation recently, are you back in training?
Wanderlei Silva - Yes. I have been training hard and my personal trainer Rafael Alejara got new equipment, a sand box and other machines. I'm having a lot of fun, it's all new and I have done around 100 trainings and haven't repeat a single sequence.
MMA365.com - Anything that you want to tell your fans at mma365.com and around the world?
Wanderlei Silva - I'd like to thank the whole American audience. I see Americans are nuts about MMA and I hope I can keep pleasing them. They like aggressiveness and violence and I will do everything I can to please them. I have 40 fights and over ten years, but in US, it feels like a debut for me also. I feel like a newcomer.
Martial Arts Xtreme helps MMA become popular in Europe
by Ed Preuss October 25th

A new reality show has been causing as much noise in Europe as "The Ultimate Fighter" in the United States. Entitled Martial Arts Xtreme, the reality show has a similar system of two teams lead by two coaches to demonstrate the best of European MMA fighters. Aired by DSF channel, the show it's on every Saturday at 8:45pm ( Switzerland time) and according to Brazilian Augusto Frota, the coach of the black team, the audience has been very acceptable to the new TV show.
"I am not used to cameras, but I believe the whole crew has been doing a great job. The MMA scene has been expanded from the impact and the number of sponsors has increased in Switzerland, since the show was on," says Frota, who also works as promoter of the Vale-Tudo show Shooto Switzerland, which will feature the fifth edition on this Saturday, October 28 th, at GZ heuried Diechiweg, in Zurich.

Filmed in Berlin, the show humanizes the figure of the MMA fighter, who most of the time, is seen as a violent person in Europe. "The audience is also having fun because they are seeing another side of the professional MMA fighter. They have a chance to know and recognize another human being and they identify with each fighter. The audience no longer sees us as freaks. We are normal and we have the same likes and dislikes," believes Frota.
Frota, a BJJ black belt under Pride fighter Rodrigo Minotauro leads the black team, while German fighter Mario Staple captains the red ones. Frota, who counts on two Brazilian fighters in his team (Marcelo Lopez and Hugo D.) has been having a better performance in the show, winning most of the fights in the octagon. "So far the black team has sent four red ones home (laughs)". Different from the American show, the coats of the teams fight in the end of the season. "On December 23 rd Staple and I will fight for real at Max Gala Fight and so Iwan Mussado and Daniel Weichel, who are the favorite fighters to win in the final of Martial Arts Xtreme", tells Frota.
On the Max Gala Fight show, another bout has been very expected. The match between Brazilian Top Team Roan Juco Carneiro and Chute Boxer Nino Elvis Schembri will be the main fight of the night. Pride FC "The Real Deal" Interview Special: Vitor Belfort
by Ed Preuss October 18th

Brazilian BJJ black belt Vitor Belfort will be in one of the most anticipated fights of Pride Real Deal, which takes place on October 21, at Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas . His opponent will be former Welterweight Pride champion Dan Henderson, who in his records, has wins over Brazilians Murilo Bustamante, Murilo Ninja, Renzo Gracie, Renato Sobral and Rodrigo Minotauro. "He's a tough fighter, very tough. He has heavy hands and he knows how to punch. He also applies great take downs and he knows how to play on the ground", stated Belfort, who added: "To be honest, I think Henderson would do a great job in any division. He fought Rodrigo Minotauro as a heavyweight, Wanderlei Silva over at middleweight. He deserves a lot of respect and I am really anxious to fight him," he said to the MMA365.com's crew. Know more about Vitor Belfort's thoughts in this pre-fight interview.
MMA365 - How is everything, people said you traveled with the most popular soccer team in Brazil, Flamengo.
Vitor Belfort - Everything is fine... Right now I am waiting to fight Dan Henderson. About the trip, I met the whole team. I root for Flamengo and I talked with the whole crew and they are very nice people. I read people talking that this meeting would give me the extra force to defeat Henderson, but I don't believe in it. The biggest force for me comes from above, from Jesus.
MMA365 - Who is there with you, how is your training?
Vitor Belfort - It's alright. I already did my first training since I arrived in LA. I am with my crew. My Boxing trainer Luis D, Muay Thai trainer Luis Alves, my manager Jorge Guimar㥳, the Joinha and also Felipe and Daniel, who takes care of my physical training.
MMA365 - So, have you decided on which strategy you will use against Henderson?
Vitor Belfort - I am feeling confident and I feel myself in the best shape. I won't do anything different from my regular training. I will do what need to be done to leave the ring as champion. It is not a mystery, but I hope to leave as a champion.
MMA365 - What are your thoughts about your opponent?
Vitor Belfort - To be honest, I think Henderson would do a great job in any division. He fought Rodrigo Minotauro as a heavyweight, Wanderlei Silva over at middleweight and so far, he was fighting at the 83kg division. He deserves a lot of respect and I am really anxious to fight him.
MMA365 - Where do you think you should be careful with Henderson?
Vitor Belfort - He's a tough fighter, very tough. He has heavy hands and he knows how to punch well, he also applies great take downs and he knows how to play on the ground. So I have been training hard and I am not concerned about it. But taking a good punch from that MMA glove its not a game for beginners.
MMA365 - And about the new rules, may they may bother you in any way?
Vitor Belfort - Well, about the new rules, I think all fighters which fought under old rules must adapt. I know I will do my best and do my job. I am not worried about that. If I could change a thing, I would remove the elbow moves of UFC and also the stomps of Pride. I guess UFC rules are perfect, but with no elbows.
MMA365 - So, what do you think about this Pride debut in US? You have a lot of fans in US?
Vitor Belfort - Well, I can tell you everything is normal. I am at the hotel and the guys are accessing the internet. Nothing really is different from usual. About Pride's debut in US, I believe it's too good for the sport. It will make the sport even more popular in America and around the globe. In my opinion, it's a great deal and a great step for the sport.
MMA365 - Please, send a message to your fans...
Vitor Belfort - I want to thank all people who have been rooting for me and I ask them to keep believing in me. God bless you all!
Exclusive Interview: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
by Ed Preuss October 13th

Pride's Middleweight GP current champion Mauricio Shogun will be one of the Brazilian fighters to step inside the debut of Pride in US. Scheduled for upcoming October 21st, Pride "The Real Deal" will put face to face Shogun and American wrestler Kevin Randleman. It's going to be the second bout after the fatidic fight against Mark Coleman, at Pride 31. However, after stomping French Cyrille Diabate at last Pride OW final, Shogun says he is ready to the new challenge and aware of the news rules which forbid penalty kicks and stomps when the opponent is on the ground, Shogun's specialty. "I intend to show Randleman what I have been training and learned in my career. I have been training specifically in the new rules. I know I'll not be able to stomp, but in my opinion, a elbow in the face might hurt more then a penalty kick or an stomp," said the fighter during an exclusive to MMA365 crew.
MMA365 - When are you leaving Brazil?
Mauricio Shogun - I am leaving on October 16. I will fly with my Master Rudimar Fedrigo and Rafael Cordeiro, my brother (Murilo) Ninja and Wanderlei Silva.
MMA365 - So, what are you expecting of this Pride debut in US?
Mauricio Shogun - It's going to be wild! I am sure it will be a very good show. Talking about my fight, I am sure I'll do my best and the audience may expect a great performance.
MMA365 - You are going to fight Kevin Randleman, do you already know how to annul his game?
Mauricio Shogun - No. All tactics and strategies I decide at the time. I do what comes to my mind. I intend to show what I have been training and learned in my career. So I don't know previously what I am going to do.
MMA365 - So, you have been away from the rings since you got injured with Coleman, how do you analyze your last bout at Pride, when you defeated French Cyrille Diabate.
Mauricio Shogun - The most important thing for me was winning. I am glad I was fully recovered and imposed my game as usual. I think I could have done a little more, show my stamina, but what really matters is that I returned in great shape and now I am still in the battle.

MMA365 - So, rumors say you might fight Pride Heavyweight champion Emmelianenko Fedor at Pride New Years Eve, what do you say about it?
Mauricio Shogun - Well, I am surprised with that because it's the first time I am hearing it. No, I can tell you I don't know anything about it. My plans include get better and fight the middleweight GP in 2007 and I am the owner of the belt and I will do everything to retain it. But my plans also include fighting as a heavyweight in 2008.
MMA365 - With different rules Pride is going to promote the first show in America. Are you concerned about the new rules?
Mauricio Shogun - No, I am sure I will adapt to the new rules, but for my game, regular Pride's ones are the best. I am sure MMA will get very developed and it has been growing fast in United States.
MMA365 - So you are aware you wont be able to stomp you opponents, one of your favorite moves in the ring?
Mauricio Shogun - Yes, I have been training specifically in the new rules, so I know I'll not be able to stomp. In my opinion, a elbow in the face might hurt more then a penalty kick or an stomp, but is just my point of view. New house, new rules!
BJJ black belt Demian Maia is the Super Challenge Champ

October 9th

Brasa's Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Demian Maia has transformed the Super Challenge ring into a big mat, on last October 7. After fighting three opponents in the same night, Demain Maia has be crowned as the best Brazilian MMA fighter of the 83kg division. Over the 73kg division, another BJJ black belt was the highlight. Fabricio Morango, BJJ black belt under Royler Gracie defeated three opponents as well and became champion of the GP.
Regular on the mat, Demian showed great skill in the ring
In 2006, Demain Maia experienced ups and downs in Jiu-Jitsu. If during Sao Paulo Regionals, he won the open class division defeating five opponents in the same night such as Macaco Gold Team's leader Jorge Patino Macaco and Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Gabriel Napao by triangle choke, at the final, Maia didn't reach the podium at both major Jiu-Jitsu tournaments of the year: BJJ World Cup 5 and XI BJJ Worlds. "I was more focused in fighting Vale-Tudo at the time," said Maia.
He knew a major challenge was in the way. Fighting at Super Challenge would be the major challenge of his career. Before stepping inside the ring built at José Correa Gymnasium , in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Maia had fought at Finnish event The Cage, held in Helsinki. On December of 2005, he submitted local fighter Lukasz Chlewicki with an arm-lock in early round 1.
Debuting in his own country, he first fought Nogushi's black belt Katel Kubis taking his chances on the feet, Demian threw a high kick in Katel, who put BJJ black belt down with a double-leg. Then, he proved his black belt in check and passed Kubis guard and remained in the ground until reaching his opponent's back. From the position, he applied a rear naked choke and submitted Kubis at the 3min30s of the first round.

Tough opponents between Maia and R$35,000
His second fight was the hardest one, against Gracie Barra Combat Team fighter and Pancrase veteran Gustavo Xim? a very tied fight, Demian tried to take the fight down for a couple of times, but Ximu did a good spralw and fell on the top. Fighting with his back on the canvas, Demian tried to sweep and took few chances to apply a submission position. In the end of the second round, Demian put Ximu, passed his guard and punished him from the mount, until the last bell. Xim?o had defeated Leonardo Chocolate, was defeated by split referee's decision.
At the final match, Demian showed being such a great fighter. He fought BJJ black belt from Lotus and Showfight champion Fabio Negao who reached the final after KOing Carlos Baruch (Belfort Team) and Felipe Mongo (Pequeno) by TKO in the extra round. In less than a minute of fight, demian got the audience nuts when applied a high kick in Negao Trying to take the fight down, Lotus black belt tried to clinch, but allowed Brasas' black belt to fix a guillotine choke, fatal weapon which gave Maia a R$35,000 prize (nearly $USD16,280).

UFC 64 Preview: Anderson Silva Interview
by Ed Preuss October 2nd

Muay Thai Dream Team fighter Anderson Silva has gained the chance to fight for the middleweight belt of Ultimate Fighting Championshiop against champion Rich Franklin. The UFC 64 show, which takes place on October 14, is only the second appearance of Brazilian fighter in the octagon. Some critic say that the UFC might have gave Silva a title shot too soon. Anderson Silva has KO'd Chris Leben in only 49 seconds of the first round at Ultimate Fight Night 5, on June 28. Silva defends the UFC decision: "I retain two belts in my career: Shooto and Cage Rage and I thank UFC for this opportunity and to be honest with you, I think I might had to wait for a while, but they offered me this chance and I'll go for it", stated the fighter during an interview with MMA365 staff.
MMA365 - Are you ready to fight Franklin?
ANDERSON SILVA - Yes. However I don't know his game that well. I know he is the champ and a very tough fighter. I haven't seen his fights, but I don't care about it. I will play my game and fight on the feet and on the ground, in case he decides to take the fight down. I just got my Jiu-Jitsu black belt and I am ready to use it.
MMA365 - You've made an impressive performance during your debut at Ultimate Fight Night 5, when you KO'd Chris Leben in only 49 seconds of the first round. Did you get surprise when they said you would fight for the title in your second fight?
ANDERSON SILVA - Well, to be honest with you, I think I might have to wait for a while, but they offered me this chance and I'll go for it. I get two belts, at Shooto and Cage Rage and I thank UFC for this opportunity.
MMA365 - You said you just graduated BJJ black belt, how do you feel about it?
ANDERSON SILVA - I wasn't expecting it but I think my responsibility has increased now. Before I didn't have to prove my ground during a MMA bout and now I do. Being a black belt, I have to train harder and harder to now allow my opponents to submit me. I knew sooner or later the graduation would come out, but I was so happy to receive it from Rodrigo Nogueira's hands.
MMA365 - You talked about training... how is training for UFC?
ANDERSON SILVA - I have been concentrated in Curitiba (southern city of Brazil), but I trained hard in Rio de Janeiro with Nogueira brothers, Vitor Belfort and the whole crew. But so far I have been training with my sparring mates in Curitiba. My teacher Madison, Rodrigo Vidal Joginer and with pride veteran Pel頌andy? they really kick ass.
MMA365 - Talking about Pride. Do you intend to fight there again?
ANDERSON SILVA - Well, about Pride, I always say I don't have the urge to fight there again. I proved what I had to prove and I am fine with it. Now I think I am in the right place. I am showing my work. I think I've proven all I got in Japan. If I have to fight there again, I would like to fight at K-1.
MMA365 - And about Cage Rage? You still retain a belt in England?
ANDERSON SILVA - I say Cage Rage is such a great event that supported me a lot and gave projection. But now I must seek what's better for my career and I believe in UFC.
MMA365 - In your opinion: who are the best fighters in your division?
ANDERSON SILVA - Out of questions: Rich Franklin. But the division has such great fighters as Carlos Newton and other wrestlers. This was as major concern when I signed UFC. I knew I had to improve my wrestling and my ground skills to do a great fight against the American wrestlers.
MMA365 - You've fought in the ring and in the octagon, but did better in the octagon so far, do you prefer fighting in the cage?
ANDERSON SILVA - I adapted myself better inside the cage. But I also feel great fighting in the ring also. In the octagon, I found a way to defend myself from the wrestlers. The octagon makes harder for a striker like me, but I got well adapted.
Bushido GP Finals Preview: Paulo Filho Interview
by Ed Preuss September 29th

Brazilian Top Team Paulo Filho has been performing impressively at Pride Bushido GP (Welterweight). In the first and second rounds, he defeated Ryo Chonan and Gregory Bouchelaghem revealing an impressive record of 13 fights and 13 victories. Now, he has a chance to conquer a new belt for his team. Filho, who fights Kazuo Misaki on November 5th, is very confident about the fight and even having no experience in fighting more than one time in the same night under Vale-Tudo rules, he wants badly the Pride belt. "I want to see how Misaki will do against me. I am a stronger fighter, who has better ground skills he ever faced and that will do the best to win the fight," Paulo teased, adding: "I pray for him to come over me. I hope he wants to kick my ass because he will make our distance short enough to take him down and submit? I am dying to see it," he tells. Resting since he arrived in Brazil after the last August 26th' show, Paulo Filho returned to training on September 28 and will focus his training on Misaki supported by the whole BTT crew, until the departure day, on October 28th.
MMA 365 - What are your thoughts on your upcoming fight on November 5th against Kazuo Misaki, part of the Pride FC Welterweight GP of 2006 final round?
Paulo Filho: My thoughts are always positive. I hope I have a great result against Misaki. I believe I may defeat him because my game is more applied. He has showed a great performance against Dan Henderson and Phil Baroni. Henderson's mistake was trying to KO him. Japanese proved he is a tough fighter and every time they fought in the ground was because Misaki took the fight down. Now I want to see how he might do against me. I am a stronger fighter, who has better ground skills he ever faced and that will do the best to win the fight. I warn him: It will be a really tough fight for you.
MMA 365 - Misaki has never been knocked out in his professional career, and is coming as you said of two big wins. You stated that he will be the toughest Japanese opponent you will have ever faced, but is it possible that he is your toughest opponent yet?
Paulo Filho: No. I've fought several tough Japanese fighters such as Yuki Kondo, Minowa fighting in his category, Chonan? but I am sure Misaki is the bigger one, but I am sure is the less contusing. He has such a great physical preparation and he comes from great fights. He also fought Ricardo Almeida Cachorro and gave him a hard time, but ended being defeated by referee's decision. And the fact he has never been KO'd is something that doesn't bother me at all. I'll not play his game.
MMA 365 - Misaki said he was inspired by Mirko CroCop's victory at the Open Weight Grand Prix and he might do the same as Croatian fighter. What do you think about that?
Paulo Filho: I pray for him to come over me. I hope he wants to kick my ass because he will make our distance short enough to take him down and submit. It would be boring if he avoids me and runs from me during the fight. I pray for him to come at me. I am dying to see it.
MMA 365 - What are your thoughts about pride GP OW?
Paulo Filho: Well, I didn't watch the fight live, but Brazilian Top Team crew told me Rodrigo Minotauro was robed. He was supposed to leave the ring as champion and then fight Cro Cop, but I think Japanese preferred to have an American fighter at the finals.
MMA 365 - Fans have already predicted that you and Denis Kang will meet in the final match, does this add more pressure to perform, and how does one prepare for a night when he might have to face two opponents, instead of just one?
Paulo Filho: All my life I have been fighting more than one fighter. I know Jiu-Jitsu is different from Vale-Tudo, but fight is a fight, being in the mat or in the ring. It won't matter. About the pressure, I only care about pleasing my family and friends. To be honest, my friends don't care if I win or lose because they are my friends no matter what. I can tell you I'll do my best to bring this belt to Brazil.
MMA 365 - Talking about the belt. BTT has been close to get a belt with (Murilo) Bustamante, (Rodrigo) Minotauro and Ricardo Arona. What would it mean to you to win the tournament?
Paulo Filho: For my team is such a big deal. As you said many fighters reached title shots, but they didn't win. Not because they didn't deserve it, but because it was not their day. A belt for us now brings more respect and prizes our work in Vale-Tudo. Nowadays if you want to join Vale-Tudo by Jiu-Jitsu, you have to look for BTT.
MMA 365 - How is training like with some of the best athletes in the world?
Paulo Filho: To be honest, near by a competition, it's kind of hard to train with the professional top fighters. Just because they are kind of harsh and we cannot get injured. Sometimes I have hard trains with (Rodrigo) Minotauro and (Rog鲩o) Minotouro, but we use to train with sparring mates and technicians. But the train is very good!
MMA 365 - Will you be at the Pride FC "The Real Deal" event at Las Vegas, and what are your thoughts on the globalization of mixed martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Paulo Filho: I am not sure, because I've never visited United States before. But about the Pride going to United States is such a great news because US has been developing Vale-Tudo fast and Japanese understood it right the way. In my opinion, I think they want to compete with UFC. Dana White likes to tease pride fighters and I believe Pride wants fresh air. Belts may be unified and this is the great step for the popularization of the sport.
MMA 365 - You are not a tall man. Why do people call you Paulão (big Paulo)?
Paulo Filho: It's an old story. Who gave me this nickname was BJJ black belt Carlson Gracie and Saporito. When I was 15 years old, I was a Judo fighter and started learning Jiu-Jitsu. I weighted 94kg by that time and was kind of big for my age so they called me Paulão and now here I am.
MMA 365 - A bit off topic, but are you a soccer fan? Which club is your favorite?
Paulo Filho: I love soccer and I sometimes I like playing it with friends and I have fun. I root for popular team from Rio de Janeiro Flamengo because my father is Flamengo and I grew up rotting for his team. But I do respect a lot other clubs such as Botafogo, where (Manuel) Garrincha played; there is a lot of history in there.
MMA 365 - Would like to send you a message to your fans?
Paulo Filho: I'd like to thank for all the support and to the fans that believes in me. I will have faith in God and he will help me to bring this title to Brazil. To MMA and Jiu-Jitsu beginners, I say: Stay far away from drugs and street fighting. A real fighter shows its value inside the ring. Peace.

The Brazilian Warrior Tiger beats Japanese fighter at Demolition 4
by Ed Preuss September 25th

Held at Pacaembu Gymnasium, in Sao Paulo, on last September 23, the fourth edition of Demolition Fight represented a new mark in Brazilian fighting event's production. For the first time in History, a striking event brought a Japanese fighter to perform in Brazil. Theses days, is more common Brazilian fighters perform in Japan and fight all adversities of the trip, as the awful jet-leg. But K-1 veteran Akeomi Nitta did fine and gave his best inside the ring against Shootboxing and K-1 World Max veteran Marfio "The Warrior Tiger" Canoletti. In a five rounds combat, didn't care to the audience rooting for Canoletti and showed a lot of resistance.
Marfio started the first round more aggressive applying strong low-kicks and jab combos. However, in the second round, Nitta counterattacked all Marfio moves, with both fighters punishing each other legs with low-kicks. Marfio took a small advantage with his Boxing, which surprised Nitta for few times. Very resistant and persistent, Nitta didn't let himself behind and insisted with low kicks, which bruised Brazilian's legs. Controlling the ring, Marfio kept scoring points alternating low and high kicks with jab/straight combos, impressing the referee's who pointed him as the champion by unanimity.

Nitta is such a tough fighter. He didn't give up at any time. It was a great fight and even I punishing his leg with low-kicks, he seemed not to care and kick me back. People say I have a strong punch, and he took them well - revealed Marfio, who now wants to return to Japanese rings. "I will work hard to fight at K-1 World Max again", he wished.

Who attempted to Pcaembu gymnasium may had a little taste of Pride OW' semifinal. All because of the excellent fight between Mirko Cro Crop' sparring Vitor Miranda and Chuteboxer Wanderlei Silva's former sparring Eduardo Maiorino. The match defined the heavyweight champion (+84kg) of the competition, besides being a revenge (In 2005, both fighters ran into each other at the final of K-1 Goi⮩a, produced by manager S鲧io Batarelli). Different from the last result, Miranda - after being punished by the referee due to the excessive clinches - played hard with Maiorino, who wasn't able to perform Demolition Fight 3 performance against Brazilian giant Montanha Silva, in April.

Using the knee, Miranda took Maiorino down and obliged the referee to open counting. After recovering, Maiorino tried to play hard as well, but ended suffering a kick in the head, which took him to the canvas, sealing the KO at 1min16sec in the first round. "My time with Mirko was a great experience. It was a every-day-war", explained the fighter. Maiorino asked for a rematch. "I don't know what happened with me. | While most of the MMA fans around the globe were anxiously awaiting the debut of Pride in the United States on October 21st, the Brazilian fighting scene was getting hotter and hotter with great events held in September and October. Just in São Paulo alone, the Brazilian audience saw strong events such as Max Fight, Balada Fight, and Predador FC. They rooted with Demian Maia and Fabirico Morango at Super Challenge, on October 7th, watched as BJJ world champion Ronaldo Jacaré submitted the Russian Alexei Prokofiev on September 27th's Fury FC, and were amazed with the structure built at Pacaembu's gymnasium, with the fourth edition of the best Muay Thai event of Brazil: Demolition. MMA Ring Report’s crew was there and debuts with this new column which profiles and looks at the MMA and fight scene in Brazil, a sometimes seldom seen but very integral component to the world MMA scene. MMA Ringreport delves deeper in the blossoming Brazilian talent pool with the “B- Sides” news and notes from the Brazilian fight scene. As the cherry on the cake, we also had access to BJJ living legend Hélio Gracie, the father of Royce and Rickson Gracie, and he chatted with us during an official tribute dedicated to him in Rio de Janeiro. Demolition Fight features international fight in SP
At the press conference, the Japanese thanked him for the opportunity and confessed jet-leg is such a tough opponent before a fight. However, he had time to recover and in the following day, gave his best in the ring. On September 23 rd, Canoletti and Nitta met in the ring. The Brazilian started attacking Nitta with strong knees and low-kicks, driving the audience crazy. Abusing his foe with low-kicks and jab sequences, Márfio realized his opponent deserved the title of Muay Thai World Champion. "I kicked and punched him as hard as I could and he seemed to absorb all my moves. He is such a tough fighter," complimented Márfio, who was pointed as the winner by unanimous decision. Netto celebrated: "This kind of fight only would be held in Japan. It's such a gift to São Paulo and Brazil," stated the promoter. Such a great victory resulted in a invitation to Canoletti to return to Japanese Shootboxing, where he fights Hiroyuki Doi (Cesar's Gym) in an alternate bout on November 3 rd.
In the other title bouts, Brazilian Mirko Cro Cop' sparring Vitor Miranda defeated Eduardo Maiorino by KO at 1:16 (R2), Cosmo Alexandre 'Hoost' defeated Ricardo Soneca by unanimous referee's decision and Bruno Carvalho defeated Edson Jr. by unanimous referee's decision. Personality: Hélio Gracie BJJ red belt Hélio Gracie is not too much a fan of being interviewed. At the age of 94, the BJJ living legend has had so much happen in his storied history that it would never fit into a simple column. Last September 21st, the Gracie received an honored tribute at a public house in Rio de Janeiro. Hosting great names of Brazilian Fighting Scene such as Artur Mariano, Eugênio Tadeu, Carlos Santos, Márcio Cromado and many others, Hélio was pleased by his own family. Also in attendance were his sons Rickson and Royler Gracie, who got emotional with the tribute. Hélio received a Pan-American medal due to his importance to Brazilian sport by politician Brizola Netto's hands and thanked his friends, "I am honored to see this full room fulfilled with friends from all Martial Arts. Thanks for coming", said the old fighter, who brought Jiu-Jitsu to Rio de Janeiro. In a exclusive talk with the “B. Sides”, Hélio explained the famous Gracie Diet and commented about the Gracie’s who have been fighting in the Vale-Tudo rings. "I don't eat salt, and food with sugar. So I don't eat deserts. I believe those who mix those two different types of food spoil the organism. I don't know if the Gracie Diet is the only reason I am feeling well at age 94, but of course it helped me a lot," stated the Gracie, who talked about the loss of his son Royce Gracie to Matt Hughes at UFC 60. "It was a fatality. The "boy" took him down and he didn't have a chance to show Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. But if he faces Royce again, I believe Royce wins", Hélio believes. | |

Pride Bushido Welterweight Final complete results. Misaki loses his first fight and goes on to beat Denis Kang in the final to take the tournament and Gomi retains his title and takes the decision over Marcus Aurelio to avenge his lone Pride loss...
Kobushi's manager Mauricio Netto has been working hard to develop the Brazilian Striking scene in the country. Investing his own money and believing in the modality, he created the Kobushi Company, which produces the Muay Thai event Demolition Fight. For the 4th edition, Netto has done something that is unseen in the Brazilian Striking circle. For the most part we see Brazilians traveling the globe for good matches, this time Netto flew to Japan and brought Japanese Muay Thai World Champ Akeomi Nitta back with him for the main fight of Demolition Fight 4, against Brazilian Márfio Canoletti.
The other great bout of the night was between 19 year old Anderson Bradock and huge Capoeira fighter Jerônimo Mondragon. Possessing such power, Mondragon stepped inside the ring confident he would destroy the young fighter from São Paulo. However, the story became a "little" different. After defending a punch sequence, Bradock hit Mondragon with a strong low-kick which looked to undermine the Capoeira fighter’s confidence. Then Bradock looked for the best time to attack his strong opponent and with crossed punch, he dropped Mondragon to the canvas. Mondragon showed warrior spirit and stood up, even though he was in no condition to continue, he fought on attacking Bradock with few more punches, which were well dodged by local fighter. It was then just a matter of time before Bradock hit him with a left hook and sealed the Knock-out at 2 minutes and 51 seconds of the first round.
Also in the São Paulo state, Real fight reached the third edition at the same time Pride “The Real Deal” was debuting in Las Vegas. Revealing new talents, the show counted on a great light and sound structure, pleasing the nearly 3,000 fans, which showed up at São Jose dos Campos Tennis Club, in São Paulo, on the 21st. Highlights of the show, included former BJJ black belt world champion Fernando Tererês's partner Erivaldo Caicó coming all the way from Natal (Brazilian Northeastern city) to do the fastest bout of the night. In only 20 seconds, Caicó took Cristian Nogueira down and fixed a tight kata-gatame, which obliged the Jorge Patino Macaco's pupil to tap out.
The best fight of the night was between BJJ black belt Bruno Frazatto and Adilson Preguiça. Frazatto rocked the bout imposing a better game on the feet and applying several take downs. Four times during the confrontation, he reached the mount and tried a few submission positions. However, Preguiça kept his mind straight and didn't give up. Many times he escaped from the mount and stood up, applying strong low kicks on his laying opponent. He drove the audience nuts with stomps and kamikaze punches forcing the opponent's guard. But due to the superiority during the three rounds, Frazatto was appointed as the champion.
The other Jiu-Jitsu black belt to fight was Daniel Otero. Replacing Renovation Fight Team Aritano, who weighed in over the limit by 1.5kg and was out of the show, Kung Fu champion Márcio Silva was invited at the last minute and showed brave heart in the ring. Trying to surprise Otero, Silva applied beautiful spin kicks, but Otero took the fight to the ground and didn't waste time. After passing Silva's guard and reaching the mount, Otero applied an arm-lock, which almost got Silva's arm broken. Showing brave heart, Silva escaped, but allowed Otero to fix the triangle choke, which obliged Silva to give up at 1 minute and 40 seconds of the first round.
